About

Hi! My name is 赵卉萌, Iris Huimeng Zhao.

I am a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I received my BAs in sociology and gender studies from Indiana University-Bloomington and an MA in social sciences from the University of Chicago.

My research interests include social demography, fertility, family, gender, and reproductive justice. My published work examines fertility preferences, desires, and coercive contraceptive care. My ongoing papers explore educational assortative mating, fertility preferences and behaviors, and the relationships between violence, coercion, and abortion.

My dissertation investigates how abortion-providing physicians in China navigate the country's shift from antinatalist to pronatalist population policies amid widespread fertility anxieties, examining how they translate these policy changes into their consultation practices and clinical care.
